Why is the IRR figure negative?

Normally, if your IRR figure is negative, it would mean that the cashflow received from the project is less than the amount that was initially invested.

However, if that is not the case, please check if your project has cash outflow followed by cash inflow followed by cash outflow. This leads to a multiple IRRs scenario and hence, a negative IRR value.
